About Me

I have served in ministry within the Presbyterian Church, USA, for over 20 years. After multiple signs, prodding, and a few shoves, I finally answered the call to pursue ordained ministry. I believe God is calling me to help guide faith communities through seasons of transition and change. This looks very different within each community and context. In today’s world, most faith communities are in some state of transition, which requires new and meaningful ways of engaging with one another. Being guided by and open to the undoing and ever-persistent movement of the Holy Spirit, the hope for a new and vital way of ministry is not only possible but should be prayerfully anticipated.

Hi! Thanks for visiting. The info in these pages should give you a glimpse into who I am, what I believe, and the ministry that I enjoy. I hope you will come on in so you can get to know me better.

After receiving a Master of Arts in Christian Education from Union Presbyterian Seminary in 1995, I have focused my work and ministry on developing, resourcing, and managing faith formation programs for predominately children and youth. Much of my time has been in parish ministry settings. However, I have also served as a public school teacher and a director of the Boys & Girls Clubs.

I grew up in Northeast Florida as the last of six children. I have very fond memories of growing up in a large family and in a loving, nurturing Presbyterian church family. Even though I struggled with undiagnosed learning difficulties, my family of origin and family faith affirmed my gifts and potential. After high school, it took me a while to find my footing in college. I credit the Presbyterian campus ministries for much of my success because of their grounding & encouragement. While at Winthrop University, I found the love of my life, for whom I thank God every day that she chooses to stick with me.

Catherine and I have been married since 1994. In 2003, we added our son Sam to our family, and he continues to be our delight and joy. Sam graduated from Decatur High School five days after I graduated from Columbia Theological Seminary. Sam plans to attend Appalachian State after a year of deferment (I wish I did that) and study Sustainable Design.
